Announcing a new subgroup for journal editors
We are launching a new subgroup for health and medical journal editors in Australia and New Zealand. This group aims to provide a community for networking opportunities, professional development and a forum to consider issues facing biomedical journals, particularly in the Australasian region.
Who can join?
Editors of health or medical journals (past, present and future)
People working with or at these journals such as editorial assistants, production managers, publishers.
Only members of AMWA may join this subgroup.
If you are interested in joining or volunteering to be on the committee please email Fiona Mackinnon – email@example.com.
AHMEN is holding an event in Sydney on June 6, 2016 at the NPSMedicinewise offices in Surry Hills.
We are still working on the program but a draft of the sessions is given below:
- Dealing with angry authors and letter writers at journals – interactive COPE session with Virginia Barbour
- Open discussion – what is the role of medical journals in an age where preprint publication is growing?
- Data sharing and medical journals (to be confirmed)

In discussion with Dr Ben Bravery - 9 February 2023 in Sydney
You are invited to hear from Dr Ben Bravery, the author of 'The Patient Doctor', on Thursday 9 February 2023 from 6pm - 8pm. This event is
hosted by the Australasian Medical Writers' Association and is open to all.
Ben will be talking about his experience as a cancer patient, and how this has impacted how he now interacts with the healthcare system as a
doctor. Ben is a strong advocate for putting the patient at the heart of healthcare. This event will also be an opportunity to network and
socialise with medical writers.
