A message from your host
How long has it been since you caught up with health and medical writers in your home town, Perth? Too long?
For me it’s been never. So let’s fix that. Why can’t we meet and mingle like they do on the East Coast?
My name is Fay Bahemia, I’m your “host” for the AMWA WA Network event on February 3rd. While I might be new to the world of health and medical science writing, I am just like you; I enjoy researching, writing and the magnificent world of biomedical science. Meeting people and organising are two more things I like doing.
As an ice-breaker, you can ask me what happened in April 2015….
So come along, let’s meet each other!

WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT! AMWA Early Career Award 2026
Congratulations to Nicole Vassileff, winner of the AMWA Early Career Award for 2026!
Nicole's submission, When the Eye Learns to Grow Back, made a significant impression on the judging panel:
"I learnt something about a topic I previously knew nothing about – the complex scientific information was presented in an accessible,
informative and interesting way."
"I really enjoyed reading this piece from start to finish. It is clear that the writer has a talent for producing
scientific writing that is both clear and engaging. I hope they continue to bring these skills to the field of medical and health
communication—Australia needs more writers like them."
