About Me

Vincentia, NSW South Coast
I graduated from Sydney University in 1983 and practiced for several years in Sydney and regional GP practices before swapping clinical medicine for a career in media; in journalism, scriptwriting, editing, copywriting and radio broadcasting, specialising in health and science, business and finance. My particular skill is to make complex issues and topics readable and understandable for a non-specialist readership/audience.
I have worked as a freelance journalist for a wide range of newspapers, magazines and websites; including the Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian Financial Review, the Medical Observer, Australian Doctor, Health Reader, the Hep Review, and ABC Health and Science Online.
I am a former staff Journalist and Broadcaster at the ABC where I wrote hundreds of articles including a weekly online column ('The Pulse') and did radio broadcasts on medical topics for ABC local radio stations around Australia and for the Radio National programs 'Ockham's Razor' and ‘All In The Mind’.
I have also worked as a freelance editor for book publishing companies; and on staff as a section editor at the Medical Journal of Australia. I have edited over 200 English language scientific manuscripts by Asian ESL authors for Biomed Proofreading Ltd.
I have also worked as a contract copywriter for a wide range of publishing and production companies, Government health bodies, and health NGOs including Health Direct, Life Education Australia, the National Prescribing Service, Aust Society of HIV Medicine, and Arthritis Australia; as well as website, marketing and patient educational copy for medical practices.
