Early Career Award 2022 - Winner Announcement

We are delighted to announce the winner of the 2022 Early Career Award as Carol Chapman! Carol's article on Dignity violations as a cause of conflict in the health care setting is an engaging and personal account, advocating strongly for the needs of patients.

Carol Chapman is a copywriter, technical writer, knowledge junkie and reformed physiotherapist with over thirty years' experience reading, critiquing and apply health research. As she describes it, tackling messaging about innovative and technically complex products and services "totally floats [my] boat". Carol has worked in health promotion, as a clinician and as a patient advocate. Having experienced both sides of the health communication divide, she has greater empathy for the way patients receive and perceive information about healthcare.

Carol completed a Graduate Certificate in Marketing in 2017 and believes that ethical, evidence-informed marketing is essential to the informed consent process.

On winning the award, Carol said "I had no confidence that I could turn my health sector past into a writing career. Then I wrote my AMWA Early Career Award entry, and I felt like I had ‘come home’. I wouldn’t have found my confidence if I hadn’t entered this award. The prize is very generous, but the real win is in entering".

We extend a huge congratulations to Carol. Her winning article can be viewed here.
