Dr Heidi Hilton
Having worked in academic research for 16 years, I made the transition to focus on my passion, which is medical and science communication. My experience in laboratory research has given me high level skills in taking complex scientific data and translating it into simple text for a range of audiences.
From 2002-2018 I was in an academic laboratory research environment, specialising in oncology, endocrinology and cell biology. I completed a PhD in breast cancer research in 2009 at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research before taking up a position as a Research Fellow at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (University of Sydney). There I was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship (2012-2016) followed by a Career Development Fellowship (2016-2018) by the National Breast Cancer Foundation. During this time, I was the lead author on several research publications and reviews (with invitations to present at both national and international conferences), and received a number of external peer-reviewed grants to support both my own salary as well as my research.
In addition to research and data analysis, I have extensive experience in writing manuscripts, reviews and grant applications, performing manuscript and grant reviews, and scientific communication to both professional and lay audiences.
