Skills and services

After finishing an English honours degree in 1971, I worked in the English Department at the University of Queensland for two years before moving to the University of Queensland Press as editor. I stayed there almost six years, both editing and establishing a promotions program. While at the University Press, I edited and wrote the jacket material and advertising information for numerous books on a vast range of subjects.
In 1981 I founded the public relations department of Princess Alexandra Hospital, and continued to develop the corporate communications program there for seven years. I wrote a monthly staff newsletter as well as patient and staff information booklets and annual reports.
I began working as a freelance writer soon after graduation, and write regularly for magazines and papers around the world.
In 1987 I established my own public relations and writing business, Impact Promotions & Publications. Most of my work involves writing, editing, and desktop publishing. I currently produce a quarterly magazine and several regular newsletters. These I write, edit, and desktop publish to camera-ready art stage. I have written, edited, and/or desktop published annual reports for many of my clients.
In 1994 The Pursuit of Quality, in which I wrote several chapters, was published by Perth publishing house, Beaumont Publishing.
In September 1995, Living on the Line written with Lee Mylne will be published by Brisbane publishing house, Copyright. Living on the Line tells of the lives and times of Queensland railway workers from line construction to the present.
I have been lecturing in communications and effective business writing for almost 20 years, most recently for the Queensland University of Technology, for a major law firm (concentrating on plain English communications), and for a communications technology firm.
